This week our book of the week was ‘Little Robin Red Vest’ by Jan Fearnley.  In the story a week before Christmas, Little Robin washes and irons seven warm vests for the chilly nights to come. As the days go by, he comes across lots of cold and shivering animals, and kindly offers them his vests to wear. But on Christmas Eve, Little Robin is cold and all alone with no vests left! That is, until Father Christmas arrives to reward his kindness and generosity with a perfect little red vest which is just how a robin got his red breast!

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this book:

Writing – Write the days of the week

Maths –  Make a repeating pattern using three different coloured vests

Funky Fingers – Cut out a vest and decorate it using bingo dabbers

Outside – Make a bird feeder

Creative – Make a paper plate robin

Playdough – Make playdough robin

We did a great job of completing our challenges this week.  All the Reception children that were in school this week completed their challenges and their gold challenge this week – well done!

In maths the Reception children have been learning about the days of the week and learnt a new days of the week song.  We have been making calendars and ordering the days.    The Nursery children have been playing some Christmas games, some that focus on number recognition and counting to six

This week we did some sewing to make some robins to hang on our tree.  We also wrote letters to Santa and walked to the post office to send them off.

We were very excited to see some snow this week!  We wrapped up warm and went outside.  We used lots of different words to describe what they snow felt like, looked like and sounded like when we walked on it.

On Friday we were excited to wear our Christmas jumpers to school.

Next week our story will be ‘A House for Christmas Mouse’ by Rebecca Harry
