Our story this week is ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.  We have been learning to tell the story using actions and remembering the words.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this story:

Writing – Label the characters in the story

Maths – Add the different amounts

Funky Fingers – Use tweezers to feed the wolf

Creative – Make a forest picture

Construction– Create Grandmother scottage

Drawing – Draw a forest

Outside – Make some soup for Grandma

In maths this week the Reception children have been sorting in different ways and counting accurately.   They have also been practising telling and making o’clock time. The Nursery children have been counting and matching.

In Read, Write Inc. this week the Reception children have been learning the sounds th, sh, qu and nk and have been practising writing cvc words.  The nursery children have been continuing to listen and identify different sounds and playing some rhyming games.

Our music this term is Celebration Music.  This week we listened to music for the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah.  We looked at some pictures of different instruments that are used in the celebration and heard what they sounded like.  We also did the ‘Hora’ dance, which is a celebration dance for Hanukkah.

This week we made some paper flowers for Little Red Riding Hood to take to Grandma.  We thought about what we would put in a basket to take to someone who was ill.  The Reception children wrote about what they would take.  We also acted out the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

This week as part of our RE theme ‘Why do Christians perform a nativity play at Christmas?’ we unwrapped presents and inside were the people in the Christmas Story.  We tried to remember what part they played in the story.  We have also started to learn some of the songs in our nativity play.

This week our Starfish star of the week was Edie for always following our class rules and being kind and helpful to everyone.  Well Done Edie!

Next week we will continue our learning with the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.
