9 December 18

9th December 2018
I can't quite believe that we are on the run in to Christmas.  There is loads going on over the next couple of weeks, so keep an eye on your emails and the website!

Last week in between play rehearsals (words are nearly learnt - phew!) the Orcas had a great opportunity to take part in a Show Racism the Red Card workshop, and then a football session with the former Newcastle and Republic of Ireland player, John Anderson.  I was impressed that some of the children were amazed when I told them that he had said the best player he had played against was Maradona!

The Starfish also had fun showing their parents all the things that they get up to in class - it was definitely a learning experience for some of the parents at how independent their children are - getting waterproofs on on their own, making their own cakes, or using a hammer and nails!

On Friday whilst Starfish and Puffins were at the beach the Orcas had been invited by St Michael's School in Alnwick to join them in going to the Pantomime in Newcastle.  They had the chance to have lunch at St Michael's before going on the bus down with them to watch the show.  It was particularly great for the Year 6s to meet up with some of the children they will be going on their residential with in the Summer.  Thank you so much to Mr Johnson for inviting us.

This week is no quieter.  We will fit some play rehearsals, including at the Creighton Hall, and some Christingle practices around end of term assessments; 'Christmas through the Keyhole' - an exploration of the Christmas story with Rev Alison and some of the members of the Church; and our last beach school of the term.

Please don't forget that Thursday is Christmas Jumper day - children can come in with school uniform bottom halves and Christmas jumper tops.  Year 1s to 5s will still need to bring in PE kit as normal for our afternoon trip to Willowburn.

Please ensure that you send your costumes in for the play by Thursday at the latest.

On Thursday evening there is a PFA meeting.  The meeting has been moved to the evening to allow for more people to get to it - please come along.

Friday is the last Parent Celebration Worship of the term.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Don't forget the Morrison's Bag Pack on Sunday.  There are still some slots available for you to come and help out.

Finally, I would like to pass on a huge thanks to Mick, Vickie and the residents at the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel.  Residents have donated £100, which was matched with a further £100 by the hotel, to school funds.  We will be using the money to buy a shelter for Beach School, together with some hi-vis jackets with the school's name on.  In a period where school funding has been reduced significantly over the last few years, the generosity of others in helping provide vital resources for our children is overwhelming.
