Puffins

What a day to begin beach school today!  The weather was glorious and uplifted our mood enormously.  We began with Worship by the Waves with the rest of the school before heading off to do some sentences in our journals.  Year 1s were writing some sentences about what they could see while the Year 2s were writing some expanded noun phrases sentences.  The sunshine definitely made these sentences easier!  We then moved on to doing some place value recapping with items found on the beach.  The stones represented the tens and the shells represented the ones. We worked in pairs to make 2 digit numbers.  After a quick snack we got moving in PE.  This half term we are focusing on throwing and catching.  We practised accurate under arm throwing this week before having a fairly competitive game of boules.  We had two winners!  After a short but busy morning we headed back up the hill to school for lunch .  What a great start to Beach school!

Our story at the beach today was ‘This is me!’ by George Webster.   After listening to the story and talking about George liked to do and talking about the different things we like to do we drew a picture of ourselves and wrote our names.  Some of the Reception children had a go at writing about what they looked like.

In the story George talks about how everyone is different.  We collected lots of stones and shells and then spoke about how they were different. We then used our stones and shells to make self-portraits.    In the book George talks about how together we can make a big splash.  Before we went back to school we made real splashes by throwing stones into the sea!
