Some of the Reception children completed all the Rainbow Challenges this week.

In maths this week we have all been learning about 3d solid shapes.  The Reception children have been learning the names and the properties of the shapes.  The Nursery children have been learning the names of the shapes and have been using them to create models.

This week in Read, Write Inc. the Reception children have continued to practise the sounds that they have been learning this term and have been using them to read and write words and sentences.  The nursery children have continued to focus on listening games and listening to sounds in words matching the sounds to pictures.

On Wednesday we played lots of games with Sam from Newcastle United Foundation.  Our favourite one this week was the car game.  We had steering wheels and had to watch the traffic lights, look out for roundabouts and fill up with petrol!

In music this week we improved on our musical story that we composed last week. We looked and listened to different instruments and changed the instrument if we thought the sound was more suited to the action.

We finished our RE theme ‘Why do Christians put a cross in an Easter garden?’ by making our own Easter gardens.  They looked beautiful.

On the last day of term, to finish our ‘Into the woods’ theme we had a bear day.  We found out which types of bears live in forests and woods and did some writing.  We came into school wearing black or brown, we made bear headbands and had our noses painted black.  We made bear biscuits and had a picnic eating them.  We watched ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ and did lots of other bear activities.

Our Starfish star of the week was Benji for some good investigating in maths.  Well done Benji!

After the Easter holidays our theme will be ‘Are we there yet?’  Our book will be ‘I Like Trains’ by Daisy Hirst.
