Blog 3.3.23

This week our book of the week was ‘Cars Galore’ by Peter Stein.  The book is full of cars of all shapes, sizes, sounds, and even smells.  The cars were packed with big personalities, awesome features, and eccentric passengers.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to cars:

Writing – Write about what you can see in the garage

Maths – Answer the number sentences and park the answer cars in the correct spaces

Funky Fingers – Build a Lego car

Outside – Use chalk to make a road

Creative – Make a car using a paper plate

Construction – Use wooden blocks to make a car park

In maths the Reception children did a survey of the different coloured cars that went past school. We recorded using a tally chart and then counted how many at the end.  We then looked to see what the most popular colour car was and what the least popular colour was. The nursery children have been recognising numbers to ten, counting up and down and matching numerals and spots.

In Read, Write Inc some children have been practising and recapping the ‘special friends’ and other children have been learning the letters w, z and x.  The nursery children have continued to learn about the Three Little Pigs story.  They have been finding rhyming phrases this week.

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day.  Lots of us decorated plates with our favourite traditional story characters.  We did some book related activities and some children from Orca class came to read us some stories.

In the tuff tray this week we have been using stickers, cutting Rapunzel’s hair and making moon dough.

Mrs Cotton has turned our role play area into a bus!  We have loved pretending to go on journeys and take it in turns to be the driver.  Thank you Mrs Cotton!

Our RE this half term is ‘Why do Christians put a cross in an Easter garden?’  This week we thought about what Christians do during lent.  We all discussed what we could do to help others.  We wrote our ideas on a heart and made it into bunting.

Starfish Star of the Week was Fedir.  He did some fantastic mark making for the writing challenge this week.  Well done Fedir!

Next week our book will ‘Toot and Pop’ by Sebastien Braun.
