This week our story was ‘The Everywhere Bear’ by Julia Donaldson.  The Everywhere Bear has a home on a shelf in the classroom but he doesn't spend very much time by himself.  Each boy and girl in the class is his  friend and he goes home with one of them every weekend. The Everywhere Bear has a wonderful time with the children in Class One, but one day he gets more than he bargained for when he falls unnoticed from a backpack and embarks on his own big adventure! He's washed down a drain and whooshed out to sea, rescued by a fishing boat, loaded onto a lorry, carried off by a seagull before finally making it back to Class One.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this book:

Writing – Write a list of children in our class

Maths – Count how many fish are for sale in Bishops fish shop

Funky Fingers – Cut out books and stick them on the library shelves

Construction – Design and build a school and put the Everywhere Bear inside

Creative – Draw some stripes on the cat from the story

Reading – Choose your favourite story from our class library and say why you like it

This week nearly every Nursery and Reception child did all their challenges and Gold Challenge.  They did so well, with some children completing all the challenges by Wednesday!

In our story this week we saw some different types of homes.  We looked at some photos of homes from different places around the world.  We compared them and discussed what was different.  We found a few things that were the same in some of the homes and then we spoke about whether we would like to live in them.  We all decided that some of the homes we might like to spend a night in but not live in them!

On Monday we got on the coach with the KS2 children to visit the library. The  coach trip was very exciting and we were amazed at what we could see being so high up. Most of us had never been to the library before and we were amazed at all the books that were there.  When we got to the library one of the librarians read us ‘I Spy Island’ written by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet (the authors of Supertato).  We all chose a book to take back to school and then we sat in the special story chair.  Mrs Popay read us another book and then we got the coach back to school.

When we were at the park this week we took the clipboards and did some writing.  The Nursery children looked for things that started with c and s, and the Reception children wrote about what they wanted to go on.

We thought about our visit to the library in Alnwick and looked at the picture of the  library in ‘The Everywhere Bear’.  We compared our photos and pictures from the book and made a list of things that were the same.

Next week we will have another Julia Donaldson story: ‘Follow the Swallow’.
