Blog 21.4.23

Our story this week has been Jack and the Beanstalk.  We have heard different versions of the story and watched a retelling of the story.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this story:

Reading – Read the sentences about the story and draw the missing pictures

Maths – Measure the beanstalks

Funky Fingers – Thread leaves onto a lace

Outside – Draw Jacks house using chalk and find some leaves for the beanstalk

Creative – Make a beanstalk picture

Playdough – Make a pair of big boots for the giant and small boots for Jack

In maths this week the Reception children have been ordering teen numbers and counting numbers between 10 and 20 accurately. The Nursery children have been practising ‘one more’ using different ways.

The Reception children are continuing to learn new sounds in Read, Write Inc and working hard with their reading and spelling.   The Nursery children have been learning about the sound ‘s’.  They have been identifying objects and pictures that start with that sound.

We have been talking about what plants need to grow.  We have been planting beans this week and are looking forward to watching them grow.  The Reception children then wrote instructions for how to plant a bean.

In the tuff tray we have been investigating using balances and cereal.  We have also explored different coloured spaghetti.

Mrs Cotton has turned our role play area into a garden centre.   We have loved making signs and pretending to buy and sell things.  We have had lots of fun playing outside this week too.

Our RE this term is Special Stories.  This week we thought about which stories are special to us and what our favourite stories are.

Next week our book of the week will be ‘Sam Plants a Sunflower’ by Kate Petty and Alex Scheffler.
