Our book this week has been one of our favourite stories ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ retold by Michael Rosen.  The well know story of a family who decide to go looking for a bear, and declare – 'we are not scared', but they then face a series of obstacles, including a river, a snowstorm, and a muddy swamp.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this story:

Writing – Write your own version of ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’

Maths – Complete the bear subtractions

Funky Fingers – Cut some wool to make a swishy swashy grass picture

Outside – Hunt the pictures from the story and put them in order

Creative – Choose your resources  and make  a bear face

Construction – Make a brick bear cave

All the reception children that were in school this week completed all their Rainbow challenges and their Gold Challenge.  Well done everyone!

In maths this week the Reception children have been learning about and exploring odd and even numbers.   The Nursery children have been using positional language and discussing routes and locations.

The Reception children are continuing to learn new sounds in Read, Write Inc and working hard with their reading and spelling.   The Nursery children have been learning the sound ‘b’ and ‘f’.

In music we chose instruments to accompany the story and have been learning about pitch.  We have also maps of the story, written captions for pictures from the story and used 2d shapes to create bear faces.

All of Starfish were stars of the week this week as they did an absolutely amazing performance of ‘We’re Going on a Bear hunt’ in our class worship.  Mrs Popay, Mrs Cotton and Miss Kiernan were so proud of them all.

Next week our story will be ‘The Littlest Yak’ by Lu Fraser and Kate Hindley.
