Blog 3.2.23

This week our book of the week was ‘Little Explorers Dinosaurs’.  It is a non fiction lift the flap book all about dinosaurs.  We loved lifting the flaps and finding out lots of information.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to dinosaurs:

Writing – Write about a dinosaur picture

Maths – Put the animals in height order and measure the tallest and the smalles

Funky Fingers – Balance the dinosaurs

Outside – Hide a dinosaur and give a friend directions to find it

Creative – Make your own lift the flap dinosaur book

Construction – Make a forest for some dinosaurs

What a great week we had for challenges!  Nearly every single Reception child did their challenges and gold challenge!  Fabulous work.

In maths the Reception children have been continuing to practise counting backwards and forwards, counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and finding pairs of numbers that make ten.   They have also been finding the different ways to make 5, 6 and 7. The nursery children have been practising writing numbers and estimating small numbers and talking about more or less

In Read, Write Inc some children have been learning ‘special friends’ of ‘ng’ ‘ch’ and ‘nk’ and other children have been learning the letters u,b,f and e.  The nursery children have been investigating  the different sounds a pan and spoons can make and learning about the story of The Gingerbread Man.

In the tuff tray this week we have been making pictures and patterns using stickers, painting numbers, finding dinosaurs in ice eggs and rescuing pom-poms through laser beams!

We have been making blueberry cakes this week and the Reception children have used scales to measure out their ingredients.  It’s quite tricky to weigh the exact amount of flour and sugar!  We have also used the big map in the corridor to show where dinosaur bones have been found.  In our book of the week we looked at dinosaur skeletons and had a go at making our own skeletons for dinosaurs using cotton buds.

Starfish Star of the Week was Joseph.  He could recall many of the things we saw in Holy Trinity Church last week and remembered lots of information about what a font is used for.  Well done Joseph!

Next week we will find out more about the life of dinosaurs using the book ‘Let’s Look at Dinosaurs’ by Frances Barry.
