This week our book has been ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French.  In the story a little boy called Oliver goes to stay with his Grandpa.   Oliver won't eat anything else apart from chips- until he plays a game with his grandpa.  Whatever vegetable Oliver finds in the garden, he must eat. On Monday, he pulls up carrots, on Tuesday, it is spinach.  Each day there is a different vegetable for Oliver to try until at last he finds the potatoes and can have his chips!

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this story.

In RWInc the Reception children have read the pink ditty book ‘In the sun’ and have been learning the sounds ‘aw’ and ‘are’.  Some of the nursery children have been learning about the sound ‘f’ and have been playing initial sound and rhyming games.  The other nursery children have been learning about the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and have been playing sound games link to the story.

In maths the Reception children have been learning about adding more.  The nursery children have also been learning about adding.  Some nursery children have been leanring about positional language using the story ‘Rosie’s Walk’.

Our Science this half term is ‘Plants’.  This week we have been learning how to look after plants and talking about similarities and differences in leaves and flowers.  Our bean, sunflower and cress seeds and have all grown and we have loved looking at them.

We also had a visit to the village shop to see all the vegetables that they sell.  There were some vegetables that we knew and some that we were unsure of.   We were able to find all the vegetables that were in our story this week.  After we went to the shop we went to the park.  It was such fun to play there together.

Our big RE question this half term is ‘Which stories are special and why?’.  This week we listened to the story of ‘The prophet and the ants’ which is a special story for Muslims.  It reminds them to look after and care for all animals even the very tiny ones.

Starfish star of the week was Bryony.  She is always keen to complete her Rainbow Challenges and always follows Embleton Expects.

Next week we will continue with our story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French.
