This week our story has been ‘Little Roo and the Big Wide World’ by  Guido Van Genechten. In the story Little Roo says she's never going to leave her mummy's pocket, but she's getting far too big to be carried. So Mummy Kangaroo takes her hoppity-hoppity-hoppity, all round the big wide world, until Little Roo can't wait to go exploring by herself.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have continued to be related to this story.

We had a brilliant week with eight children completing all their Rainbow Challenges and gold challenge.  This is a class record for the year-well done!

In RWInc the Reception children have read the pink ditty book ‘Snow’ and have been learning the sound ‘tion’.  Some of the nursery children have been learning about the sound ‘v’ and have been playing initial sound and rhyming games.  The other nursery children have continued to learn about police officers and have been playing speaking and listening games and activities related to this.

In maths the Reception children have been learning about length, height and distance.  The nursery children have been learning about rotating shapes.  Some nursery children have been learning about 3d solid shapes.

On Monday we had a fabulous visit to Hauxley Nature Reserve.  The children were so well behaved.  We found out about how different birds make different nests, we looked through binoculars at birds on the pond and saw  black headed gulls, Canadian geese, greylag geese, mallard ducks and oyster catchers.  Before we left we had a mini beast hunt and found worms, flies, ants, spiders and a butterfly as well as few bugs that we couldn’t identify! We finished off our trip with a stop at Morwick Dairy for delicious ice cream.

In Science this week we have been learning about chickens and eggs.  We made paper chicks with Mrs Brearley.  In RE we have continued to think about ‘Why is the word ‘God’ special to Christians?’.  This week we thought of words that Christians might use to describe God.  We then decorated the word ‘God’ with glitter to make it sparkle to show how special the word is to Christians.

On Thursday we held our class assembly.  We recited some of our favourite poems that we have been learning throughout the year.  What an amazing job everybody did.

Starfish star of the week was Ted.  He is always engaged and focused in what we do.  This week he has been making and selling lots of pizzas in our pizza shop!

Next week we will continue with the story  ‘Little Roo and the Big Wide World’ by  Guido Van Genechten.
