Starfish

Another glorious day for beach school! Our beach school book was ‘On the Seashore’ by Anna Milbourne and Erica-Jane Waters.  The book tells us all about things that can be left behind when the waves leave the beach.  We find out about the treasure that can be found in a rock pool and find out about a hermit crab finding a new home.   We then wrote about the crab finding a new shell to live in and drew some pictures of hermit crabs.  We also looked at some pictures of hermit crabs that made their homes in rubbish that people had left behind such as a bottle top, jar and pen a lid!

We then went for a walk to collect different kinds of shells.  We were very fortunate that today loads of different shells had been washed up.  We used some shell identification charts to find out the names of the shells.

For maths at the beach we continued with the maths that we had been doing in class this week.  The Reception children practised sharing using shells and the Nursery children continued to learn about 2d shapes.

Before we went up for lunch we used the water colours to paint some of the limpet shells we found.  We tried hard to paint our shells the same colours and shades as the shells that we had found.

As it was hot today we came back up to school  after lunch.
