Our book this week has been ‘Sam Plants a Sunflower’ by Kate Petty and Alex Scheffler.  This book is a non-fiction book about growing sunflowers.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to this story:

Writing – Write a description of what a sunflower looks like

Maths – Use pattern blocks to make a flower

Funky Fingers – Use tweezers to move sunflower seeds

Outside – Plant a sunflower seed

Creative – Mix colours and paint a picture of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers

Playdough – Make playdough numbers and count sunflower seeds

In maths this week the Reception children have been sharing amounts, exploring sharing evenly and counting accurately. The Nursery children have been learning about the names of shapes and looking for shapes around school.

The Reception children are continuing to learn new sounds in Read, Write Inc and working hard with their reading and spelling.   The Nursery children have been practising the correct letter formation for letters in their names and learning about the sounds ‘a’ and ‘t’.  They have been identifying and sorting objects and pictures.

We have been continuing to find out about plants.  We have planted herbs in our outside area and we have all planted a sunflower seed.  We will be looking forward to them growing and seeing whose sunflower grows the tallest.

Our RE this term is Special Stories.  This week we have been learning about special stories for Christians.  We looked at lots of different Bibles we have in school.  We heard the story of when Jesus calmed the storm.  We found the same story in lots of our picture Bibles.  We then sang a song and acted out the story.

Next week we will be celebrating the coronation of King Charles III.
