When we came to school on Monday morning we were sad to find that some of our outside area had been damaged in Storm Arwen.  We had a long discussion about the damage the storm had done to our houses and what it was like not to have any electricity.

This week our story was Dear Santasaur’ by Chae Strathie and Nicola O’Byrne.  The story is about a little boy called Max, and his favourite dinosaur, a T.Rex who have a  Christmas adventure. Will Santa deliver to dinosaurs?  The story is a tale of friendship and is packed with letters and cards to read.

Our Rainbow Challenges this week have been related to the book:

Writing – Write a letter to Father Christmas

Maths – Count the bows and candy canes on Max’s  Christmas tree

Funky Fingers – Make a paper chain

Creative – Make a paper plate dinosaur with a Santa hat

Playdough area – Make a Santa hat for a dinosaur

As we had written our letters to Santa we then had to post them!  We walked round to the Post Office to buy a stamp to send it off.  We all wore a Santa hat as we walked through the village-it made lots of people smile!

We have had great fun playing with the dinosaurs this week.  They are normally in our outside area but we had them in class.  We made houses for them and took them on adventures.  The nursery children used the dinosaurs in maths to count with and talk about size.  We found out some facts about the dinosaurs that were in the story and the Reception children wrote some information about them.  Mrs Cotton brought us some dinosaur pasta to sort in the tuff tray, we loved putting the different dinosaurs in different bowls.

We have been getting ready for Christmas in Starfish class by decorating our Christmas tree and putting out our nativity set.  In RE we learnt about how important angels are in the Christmas story and found out that angels  are messengers from God and appear three times in the story.  Once to Mary, once to Joseph and a third time to the shepherds.  We then all made an angel picture

In maths the Reception children have been busy practising writing their numbers this week as well as becoming fluent with doubles and halves.

We have been learning a poem called ‘Counting Christmas’  which we have performed this week.   It was a tricky one but we tried really hard.

Next week we will be finding out about the Christmas Story.
