22 June 18
On the beach today we learnt about dinosaurs, volcanoes and rocks.
Class 2 started the day by playing a game of beach football to celebrate the World Cup.
Class 1 shared what they already knew about dinosaurs and then used information cards to find out how big different ones were. They worked in pairs to measure out in the sand how long the dinosaurs were.
Both classes then joined together to find out about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. We investigated a range of different rocks including pumice and flint. We discussed how each type of rock was formed.
We worked together in mixed age teams to make volcanoes from the sand. We then explored the chemical reaction that takes place when baking soda and vinegar are mixed, making our volcanoes erupt with bubbles.
In the afternoon, whilst the Year 5s went to the High School, the Year 4s led teams to find different rocks for their own rock museums. They sorted and classified them, before showing them off to each other.
