17th November 2019
Last week, on Monday, we had a very moving Remembrance Service on the beach.  Thank you to all those who attended with us.  Please have a look at the lovely display Mrs Cotton has created in the school corridor the next time you are in school.

On Monday we had the first gymnastics session for the Reception children with Sam, before he did his gymnastics club.  It was great to see Sam getting out the climbing bars to use - I know all the children had a great time.  If you would like to join the club too please speak to Melissa.  Reception parents, don't forget that your children need to bring in PE kit every Monday (as do those doing the after school club)!

On Tuesday we hosted the poet Paul Cookson in school.  He was amazing, and had the children in stitches.  We hope that it enthused them about poetry, and that they will use the ideas he gave them in their writing.  It was lovely to see how many children bought one of his books afterwards.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support on Friday for Children in Need.  As soon as Puffins have counted the coins (they are doing money in maths this week!) we will let you know how much has been raised.  It was great fun making cakes and biscuits together, and I know that everyone had fun at the disco - there were definitely some hot and sweaty faces when I popped in!

Thank you also to those parents that came to the PFA meeting on Friday.  As I mentioned in the Newsletter, without all the sterling work done by the PFA we would not be able to do anything like the number of things we manage to do with your children.

This week please do not forget that it is PE for Puffins and Orcas on a Tuesday, so please don't forget PE kit.

Also on Tuesday morning our Community Support Officer from Operation Encompass will be in school from 8.30 am.  If you would like to see her for a confidential chat feel free to pop in.  She will be working with the Orcas doing their next lesson on healthy relationships in the morning.

Finally, Tuesday is a parent lunch - if you have signed up, please don't forget!

On Wednesday there is a stay and play session for Reception parents in the afternoon.  Please let Melissa know if you are able to make it.

On Thursday it is school photographs.  Please ensure your child is in full school uniform, including branded jumper, and school tie (Orcas).  We will try and avoid anything that gets the children mucky beforehand!  If you have any children not at school that you would like to have photographed with their siblings please come in at 10.30 (if your child is in our nursery, but not normally in on a Thursday, please bring them in in school uniform for their picture).

On Friday we are at Beach School as normal.  The weather has definitely changed, so please make sure that your children have warm socks on.  There were a number of Orca children who did not have waterproofs with them.  Whilst we have spare sets for small children, we do not currently have many for older children.  It is really important that they are properly prepared for the conditions.  Also, please think about whether coats are waterproof or not.  Ones with fluffy hems look lovely, but are not practical when it is raining!  Finally, can I make my annual plea about hats without bobbles please.  It is really tricky to put a hood up over a hat with a bobble on.

We have got Parent Worship on Friday.

Finally can I just say a big thanks to Vickie, Mick and George at the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel, who arranged a coffee morning and raffle for the school during half term.  Thank you to all of you that bought tickets - Vickie gave us the £500 that was raised this week.  We are going to use some of it to buy some balance bikes and helmets for Starfish Class, and the rest of it paid for Paul Cookson's visit.  We are incredibly lucky to have such a supportive community!
