Starfish

This week at beach school, Starfish Class though about different 2d flat shapes and made different shapes in the sand.  We discussed how many sides and corners each one had.  We also tried to make them with seaweed.

After some singing and running games we had our snack and then it was time for some topic work.  We looked at some  boats that we could see far out to sea and thought of lots of different types of boats.  We then got into two groups and made a dingy and speed boat in the sand.  In the speedboat we put in lots of different buttons made from shells and stones and Helen gave us some oars for our dingy.  Orca Class came to see what we had been doing and one of them wanted to be water skier behind our speed boat!

In the afternoon we joined with Puffin Class to do some den building.  We had a great time and learnt to work as a team as well as learning some techniques to join the materials together.  We also had to show perseverance when our dens fell down and needed building up again!  We finished the day with a story.
Orcas

A breezy start to today’s beach school session, Orca class began with circle time on the parachute and then we moved on to producing line graphs in our beach school journals. We discussed what we could produce a line graph on and made our own using data which Bridie gave us.

Next job trainers on coats off and we completed our first cross country, we discussed a route and Miss Thompson timed us. The total route was 1.26 miles and we have used the information to include the total time taken and our average mile, we have plotted this information on a line graph which hopefully will go down the fitter we get!

In the afternoon we split into teams to make our dens Helen and Bridie provided us with the equipment and we had to work as a team to complete the challenge.  After some fun in our dens we then split into year  groups with year 6s and Noah with Miss Thompson and year 4 and 5 with Bridie and we completed our guided reading session from inside our dens.

Another fabulous day on the beach!
