We started this week off by doing a clue hunt around the classroom. We located the clues and wrote down what was in each picture. They were all clues to do with this half term's text. Once we had collected all the clues, in our groups we worked out what the story was. All the clues led us to our text - Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We began reading the story and drew a story map to help us retell it.
This week in Maths, we have been clearing up some of our misconceptions with regards to fractions. They are tricky things aren't they. Next week we are going to be looking at equivalent fractions! Wish us luck.
On Tuesday we had Laura from Operation Encompass - the next steps in to do some work with us. We played with a bag of toys and then discussed why we chose the toy we did. It led us on to think about jobs we want to do when we are older. I am happy to see that some of you want to be teachers!! The point that Laura was trying to get across to us was that it doesn't matter what job we want to do, we should always follow our hearts and that anyone can do any job. This was promoting equal opportunities and that there are no 'male' or 'female' jobs.
We enjoyed World Book Day on Wednesday, great to see everyone dressed up. We had a mixture of traditional tales; Goldilocks, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzel to name a few. We had fun talking about our characters and making a character description to go with them.
We combined our geography topic into the day by following a recipe in order to make some Australian Lamingtons. I hope they made it home in one piece, complete with the decorations on the top! We measured, mixed, cracked, folded and poured!
Thank you to those children who did a great job with their homework this week. Don't forget to chose a different one to complete this week! Remember to think carefully about what you might find at the top of the beanstalk, design a new cape for Little Red Riding Hood and include lots of details. You could describe what material it is made out of, are there any jewels or sparkly bits on it? If you chose to build the new house for the Three Little Pigs - write a description of the materials you would use. The possibilities are endless!
Also don't forget to do lots of reading too!
